What is No Child Left Inside?

I wanted to thank Arthur over at “Simply Outdoor” for this idea. He had recently did a post about organizations and activities that our geared to kids. It got me thinking a bit and started to do a little research and found this “No Child Left Inside”. It is great for the kids as well as the adults and families.

With Winter nearing an end and the outlook toward Spring and Summer now is the time to really think about getting outdoors, especially our kids. Here is a website that can help you to figure out where to go and what to do. It was created by the “Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection”. The site is called “No Child Left Inside” and it is full of great ideas for adults and kids alike.

What is No Child Left Inside?

More than any other generation, today’s kids spend a great deal of time indoors. No Child Left Inside? is a promise, and a pledge… to help Connecticut’s children live active, healthier lives while they enjoy the natural treasures of our state parks and forests – and discover the rewards of becoming environmentally conscious citizens.

This very special outreach, education and public awareness campaign was created to encourage families to enjoy all the recreational resources and outdoor activities offered by Connecticut’s state parks, forests and waterways.

One great thing they have on this site which I plan to even use myself is a “Park Locator” and what that is is a google map of Connecticut with all the state parks pinned and if you click on a pin it will give you all the information of that park like what kind of activities there is, directions on how to get there, admission fees if any etc.

There is also a “Calender of Events” which can give you directions, fees and a description of the event or activity. There is also Urban Fishing Programs which teach children from the cities who don’t normally get the chance to go fishing on how to stock fish and basically get a hands on approach. There is also a Environmental Educations classes and Activities such as taking old grungy barrels and decorating by painting and turning them into great looking recycling trash containers.

Of course you have “The Great Park Pursuit” This multi-week adventure takes families to state parks across Connecticut. Teams participate in a variety of outdoor activities at some of Connecticut’s most beautiful parks and forests while competing for fabulous outdoor prize packages.

There is alot that the Connecticut Outdoors can offer our kids and us adults as well and I hope I have given you enough avenues to look down. We all need to get out and enjoy the great outdoors if anything for peace of mind and health.
